Glamping Near Tenby, Wales: Where to Stay for the Beaches

Family & Group Travel

Tenby has the best beaches in Wales, and — we’d argue — some of the best in Britain. Blue-flag sand, a working harbour painted in ice-cream colours, and a walkable medieval old town. What it doesn’t have is much unusual glamping near Tenby, Wales — just cottages, guesthouses, and a Premier Inn.

Ten minutes up the road, we do things differently. Apple Camping is a five-acre site at Redberth offering some of the most unusual glamping near Tenby, Wales — you’ll find anywhere — sleep in a real Airbus, a decommissioned private jet, a flying saucer, or a Victorian-style railway carriage, and still be on Tenby’s beaches inside a quarter of an hour.

This is the honest guide to what we’ve got, what it costs, and how close it really is.

How Close Is “Near Tenby,” Really?

Ten minutes by car, door to sand. We’re at Redberth, 200 metres off the A477 between Broadmoor and Carew — postcode SA70 8RX. Saundersfoot is a similar distance in the other direction, and Folly Farm, Oakwood and Heatherton adventure park are all within fifteen minutes, which matters more than people expect once children are involved.

We’re far enough out to be properly quiet at night — no town noise, no streetlights, actual stars. At the same time, we’re close enough that “shall we pop into Tenby for chips” is a real sentence, not a 40-minute round trip.

It’s worth checking the individual unit page for the detail before you book if that matters to you.

Which Unit, for What Kind of Trip

First Trip, Want the Story : The Jet Star or Apple Air. A real aircraft is the thing people remember — and, consequently, the thing that gets shown to everyone back home.

Couples Wanting Privacy : The Igloo. A screened private hot tub, plus a skybunk you fall asleep in looking out at the field.

Compact Stay With a Tub : The Apple Express. Compact, family-friendly, and with its own hot tub.

No Tub Needed : The Witch’s Hat and Mrs Pac-Man (Northern Hemisphere). Neither has a hot tub, and both use the communal bathroom block.

Bigger Group, One Pod : The Crate Escape sleeps six with a full kitchen and air conditioning as well as heating — useful on the rare Pembrokeshire scorcher.

Whole Family or a Reunion : Norchard Farmhouse. Three bathrooms, a games and bar room, and a hot tub, five minutes from everyone else on site but with its own grounds.

Something Nobody Else Has Done : The UFO. It’s the unit credited with partly inspiring Airbnb’s own “OMG” category of unusual stays — book it, then tell people, in that order.

Beaches Near Our Tenby, Wales Glamping Site

Tenby South Beach and North Beach — Roughly 10 minutes’ drive, both blue flag, both enormous at low tide.

Saundersfoot — A similar 10 minutes in the other direction, with softer sand and a more sheltered feel.

Barafundle Bay — Worth the extra 25 minutes if you haven’t been. It’s regularly named one of the best beaches in Britain, and there’s no getting round the National Trust car park walk-in — which is exactly why it stays quiet.

We’ll cover the full beach-by-beach breakdown, including which ones allow dogs and when, in a separate guide. For now: pack the car once, do Tenby in the morning, and do the site’s own hot tub in the evening.
