If you’re looking for things to do in Tenby in the rain, here’s a secret: Pembrokeshire in the rain is brilliant.
Not “brilliant, all things considered.” Actually brilliant. The cliffs go moody and dramatic, the waves get louder, the town smells like woodsmoke and chips, and there’s a very particular kind of cosiness to coming in from the wind and rain to somewhere warm — a museum, a pub with a fire, a hot tub steaming away outside your unit — that a scorching August afternoon just can’t compete with.
So no, you don’t need to spend a wet day sulking in the car park at Tenby North Beach hoping it clears up. Here’s what to actually do instead, tried and tested.
Things to Do in Tenby in the Rain, In Town
1. Tenby Museum & Art Gallery
Wales’s oldest independent museum, perched on Castle Hill above the harbour. Shipwrecks, pirates, WWI exhibitions, and — genuinely lovely — letters from Roald Dahl about happy childhood holidays at a cottage overlooking Tenby’s harbour beach. An easy hour, and a proper sense of the town’s history.
2. The Tudor Merchant’s House
A National Trust property: a late-15th-century merchant’s townhouse, furnished as it would have looked around 1500. Recently refurbished with new exhibits. Guided tours only, so book ahead if you can see the rain coming.
3. RNLI Tenby Lifeboat Station
Free, right on the harbour, and a genuinely good look at the boats and the crew who go out in exactly the weather you’re currently sheltering from. A good half hour — and a single museum ticket often covers the RNLI visit and Tenby Museum across a full week if you split them.
4. Tenby’s arcades and cafés
Unpretentious and exactly what a rainy seaside afternoon calls for. The seafront arcades will happily absorb an hour of restless energy from anyone under twelve, and the town has no shortage of good cafés and pubs with a fire going for the grown-ups who’d rather watch the rain from indoors with a coffee.

For more on what’s around us beyond Tenby itself, see our guide to the area near Apple Camping.
5. Heatherton World of Adventure
About 4 minutes from Apple Camping. A proper mixed indoor/outdoor attraction — go-karts, laser tag, soft play and more — with enough under cover to fill a whole wet afternoon without anyone getting cold.
6. The Dinosaur Park’s indoor play
Alongside the outdoor dinosaur trail, there’s proper indoor soft and hard play here — a genuine wet-weather fallback that doesn’t depend on the trail being dry underfoot. We cover the full site, and the deer park next door, in our family days-out guide.
7. Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Visitor Centre
A small, genuinely interesting interactive exhibition on the landscape and coast around you — good context before or after you’ve walked some of it once the weather turns.
8. Silent World Aquarium, Tenby
A compact aquarium in the town itself — sharks, rays and local marine life. A good short stop for younger children.
9. Serendome
About 24 minutes away: an indoor dome environment with trees, terraces and play areas under a giant transparent roof, plus performance space. Built for exactly this kind of day, and a proper change of scene.
Then go home to the best bit
10. The Hot Tub, Obviously
This is where things to do in Tenby in the rain actually get good. Six of our stays — Apple Air, The Igloo, The Apple Express, Southern Hemisphere, The Crate Escape and Norchard Farmhouse — have their own private hot tub, and a hot tub genuinely doesn’t mind the rain. If anything it’s better: steam rising off the water, everyone laughing about how wet they got earlier, the sound of rain on the decking.
Southern Hemisphere has a log burner too, if you’d rather stay dry and just watch the weather happen through the window with a fire going.
If a wet day turns into a wet week, our guide to winter glamping has more on staying cosy.
